Request for Proposal

Mirror Rod Flexure (“MRF”) Bonding Fixture

The 51ԹPro LLC (“TIO”) is requesting proposals for the design, fabrication, testing, and delivery of one (1) Mirror Rod Flexure (“MRF”) Bonding Fixture with an option for TIO to purchase additional MRF Bonding Fixtures at a future date.

The TMT primary mirror is made up of 492, 1.4m hexagonal segments. Each segment is attached to a segment support assembly (“SSA”) through 27 mirror rod flexures (“MRFs”). The MRFs attach to pucks that are epoxy bonded to the backside of each primary mirror segment and together form the Polished Mirror Assembly (“PMA”).  The “MRF Bonding Fixture” is the primary tool used to locate and hold the 27 MRF pucks in position during the epoxy bonding operation.

TIO requests that any organization interested in submitting a proposal for the MRF Bonding Fixture notify TIO of its interest via email (email addresses provided below).  Once notified, TIO shall provide qualified Respondents with the RFP documents via email.

The RFP, its exhibits and any referenced documentation are subject to change. The information in the RFP is provided for the sole purpose of enabling Respondents to respond to this RFP.  Notifying TIO of your organization’s interest is necessary to ensure your team receives all updates and information regarding this RFP.  All updates, clarifications, or modifications to this RFP will be communicated via email to all qualified Respondents.

Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the specifications and instructions provided in the latest RFP documents.

Please direct all RFP questions to Pratheep Eamranond (pratheep@tmt.org) and Christina Wong (cwong@tmt.org). TIO requests that all RFP questions be submitted by December 13, 2024 – 5PM Pacific Time. Questions submitted after December 13, 2024 may not receive a response. While TIO shall take reasonable measures to keep the source of RFP communications confidential, TIO reserves the right to disclose the general content of its communications with Respondents to all other Respondents to ensure fairness and the distribution of useful information.

We thank you for your interest in the TMT Project and hope you will participate in our RFP.
