MODHIS subsystem location concepts. The MODHIS Support Structure, Rotator and On-Instrument Wavefront Sensor (SRO) and Front-End Instrument (FEI) are located on the top port of the TMT facility AO system NFIRAOS. The MODHIS Fiber Delivery System (FIB) transports the light to the Spectrograph (SPEC). SPEC and Calibration system (CAL) will be placed in a TMT lab located in the pier in order to provide a stable environment for measuring Precision Radial Velocities.
TMT Segment Handling System Main and Secondary Bridges support the Trolley, which carries the robotic Segment Lifting Fixture that removes and installs M1 segments.
Global view of utilities pipes and cable trays, electrical cabinets, and storage tanks. All TMT telescope utilities pass through the azimuth wraps and are routed across the azimuth structure and to the lower levels of the Nasmyth platforms for distribution to the instruments and other systems mounted on the Nasmyth Platforms. Utilities are also sent to the equipment carrying all the telescope optics on the elevation structure.
TMT summit facilities accommodate all utilities needed for on-site operations of the telescope including pumps, compressors, refrigeration systems, power and computer facilities, control room, offices, workshops, kitchen, receiving area and more. The current design of the facilities has not been finalized yet.
TMT staff gave an astronomy presentation and a tour of ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center for students visiting from County of Hawai’i sister city Nago, in Japan. They visited Hawai’i Island through their Study Abroad Program. Our colleague Yuko Kakazu, Education and Outreach Scientist at Subaru Telescope and Thirty Meter Telescope, who is also from Okinawa, gave them an overview of Maunakea, local observatories, and programs connecting indigenous knowledge with new astronomical discoveries.
TMT was in Montreal, Canada and attended the prestigious SPIE Conference that brings together Astronomy, Technology and Engineering experts from all over the world.
