Pasadena, CA – The Hawaii Island New Knowledge (THINK) Fund was launched in 2014 to improve educational opportunities for Hawaii Island students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. Since then, more than 20,000 students around the island have benefited from the programs through new activities in and after-school, internship programs, teacher-generated classroom projects and scholarships support to name a few.
“Very early in the TMT project, we pledged to Hawaii Island that we would provide $1 million per year for STEM education on the island. We began funding in 2014, and have provided over $5.5 million for scholarships, STEM teachers’ supplies, and educational grants to schools and non-profits. Each year, the Hawaii Community Foundation receives $750,000, and the Pauahi Foundation receives $250,000,” says Sandra Dawson, TMT Hawaii Community Affairs Manager.
